How we started
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a young man named Eric was studying Information Technology. Walking through his neighborhood in Kigali, Rwanda, he noticed many children leaving school because their families couldn't afford the fees. This sight deeply moved him.
Remembering his own childhood, Eric had been fortunate to receive support from Compassion International, which changed his life. Feeling grateful, he wanted to give back to his community. He believed every child deserved a chance at education, no matter their financial situation.
With this passion, Eric founded the Kwizera Charity Foundation. He started by gathering 15 street children in a nearby bush, as they had no other safe place to meet. Under the open sky, they shared stories, learned together, and found hope.
Eric didn't do this alone; seven dedicated volunteers joined him, all sharing the same vision. They began by helping these children return to school, providing them with necessary supplies and support.
But Eric and his team knew education was just one part of the puzzle. They recognized each child had unique talents and dreams. So, they also focused on discovering and nurturing these talents, ensuring children could pursue what they loved and build a brighter future.
Today, the Kwizera Charity Foundation cares for over 100 children. They provide essentials like food, clothing, and school supplies. They also run weekly programs, including English lessons, counseling, mentorship, and talent development sessions.
Eric's journey from a supported child to a community leader is a testament to the power of compassion and determination. Through the Kwizera Charity Foundation, he has transformed his gratitude into action, creating opportunities for children to learn, grow, and shine.
